Joe Mc Donnell - The Wolfe Tones[00:00:00]
Oh my name is Joe McDonnell[00:00:10]
From Belfast town I came[00:00:15]
That city I will never see again[00:00:19]
For in the town of Belfast[00:00:28]
I spent many happy days[00:00:32]
And I loved that town in oh so many ways[00:00:37]
For it's there I spent my childhood[00:00:46]
And found for me a wife[00:00:50]
I then set out to make for her a life[00:00:55]
But all my young ambitions[00:01:04]
Met with bitterness and hate[00:01:08]
I soon found myself inside a prison gate[00:01:12]
And you dare to call me a terrorist[00:01:21]
While you look down your gun[00:01:26]
When I think of all the deeds that you have done[00:01:30]
You have plundered many nations[00:01:39]
Divided many lands[00:01:44]
You have terrorized their people[00:01:48]
You ruled with an iron hand[00:01:52]
And you brought this reign of terror to my land[00:01:56]
Through those many months internment[00:02:06]
In the Maidstone and the Maze[00:02:10]
I thought about my land throughout those days[00:02:15]
Why my country was divided[00:02:23]
Why I was now in jail[00:02:28]
Imprisoned without crime or without trial[00:02:33]
And though I love my country[00:02:41]
I am not a bitter man[00:02:46]
I've seen cruelty and injustice at first hand[00:02:50]
So dad what faithful morning[00:02:59]
I shook bold freedom's hand[00:03:04]
For right or wrong I'd try to free my land[00:03:08]
And you dare to call me a terrorist[00:03:17]
While you look down your gun[00:03:21]
When I think of all the deeds that you have done[00:03:26]
You have plundered many nations[00:03:35]
Divided many lands[00:03:39]
You have terrorized their peoples[00:03:44]
You ruled with an iron hand[00:03:48]
And you brought this reign of terror to my land[00:03:52]
Then one cold October's morning[00:04:01]
Trapped in the lion's den[00:04:06]
I found myself in prison once again[00:04:10]
I was committed to the H Blocks[00:04:19]
For fourteen years or more[00:04:24]
On the blanket the conditions they were poor[00:04:28]
Then a hunger strike we did commence[00:04:37]
For the dignity of man[00:04:41]
But it seemed to me that no one gave a damn[00:04:46]
But now I am a saddened man[00:04:55]
I've watched my comrades die[00:04:59]
If only people cared or wondered why[00:05:04]
And you dare to call me a terrorist[00:05:12]
While you look down your gun[00:05:17]
When I think of all the deeds that you have done[00:05:21]
You have plundered many nations[00:05:30]
Divided many lands[00:05:35]
You have terrorized their peoples[00:05:39]
You ruled with an iron hand[00:05:43]
And you brought this reign of terror to my land[00:05:48]
May god shine on you Bobby Sands[00:05:57]
For the courage you have shown[00:06:02]
May your glory and your fame be widely known[00:06:06]
And francis hughes and Ray McCreesh[00:06:15]
Who died unselfishly[00:06:19]
And Patsy O'Hara and the next in line is me[00:06:24]
And those who lie behind me[00:06:33]
May your courage be the same[00:06:37]
And I pray to god my life was not in vain[00:06:41]
All what sad and bitter was the year of nineteen eighty one[00:06:50]
And everything I'd lost and nothings' what[00:06:59]
