Old Shep - Kinky Friedman[00:00:00]
When I was a lad and old shep was a pup[00:00:05]
Over hills and meadows we'd stray[00:00:11]
Just a boy and his dog we were both full of fun[00:00:17]
We grew up together that way[00:00:23]
I remember the time by the old swimming hole[00:00:29]
When I would've drowned beyond doubt[00:00:35]
But old shep was right there to the rescue he came[00:00:42]
He jumped in and helped pull me out[00:00:50]
Well the years passed and rolled and old shep he grew old[00:00:59]
His eyes they were fast growing dim[00:01:06]
Then one day the doctor looked at me and said[00:01:12]
I can't do no more for him Jim[00:01:18]
With hands that were tremblin' I picked up my gun[00:01:28]
I aimed it at shep's faithful head[00:01:34]
But I just couldn't do it I wanted to run[00:01:41]
I wished they would shoot me instead[00:01:48]
Well he crawled to my side and he looked up at me[00:01:56]
He laid his old head on my knee[00:02:03]
I'd lost the best friend that a boy ever had[00:02:09]
I cried so I scarcely could see[00:02:16]
Well old shep he is gone where the good doggies go[00:02:22]
No more with old shep will I roam[00:02:31]
But if dogs have a heaven well there's one thing I know[00:02:38]
Old shep has a wonderful home[00:02:45]
