Mrs Adlam's Angels - Ralph McTell[00:00:00]
Sundays as a rule us kids went to Sunday School[00:00:08]
And Mrs Adlam said angels stood round our bed[00:00:15]
To keep us safe from dark right through to day begun[00:00:23]
And we used to lie awake just to try to see one[00:00:31]
And though we never saw one anywhere[00:00:39]
We heard them softly singing in the air[00:00:47]
Sundays occasionally we were invited back for tea[00:00:56]
And bread with jam and cream made Sundays seem a dream[00:01:03]
In the dingy mission hall Mrs Adlam praying[00:01:12]
And down the street back home all our mates were playing[00:01:19]
With Mrs Adlam's angels everywhere[00:01:28]
And we thought we saw a halo in her hair[00:01:35]
Sundays for sure ain't like that anymore[00:01:44]
It's getting hard for me to see her face in front of me[00:01:52]
I wonder if her angels have their arms around her curled[00:02:00]
Keeping her safe from life and guarding her from the world[00:02:08]
On a summer Sunday evening do I dare[00:02:16]
To hear Mrs Adlam's angels in the air[00:02:24]
