Author’s Prologue

This day winding down now[00:00:00]

At God speeded summer's end[00:00:03]

In the torrent salmon sun [00:00:06]

In my seashaken house[00:00:09]

On a breakneck of rocks[00:00:11]

Tangled with chirrup and fruit [00:00:13]

Froth flute fin and quill[00:00:16]

At a wood's dancing hoof [00:00:20]

By scummed starfish sands[00:00:23]

With their fishwife cross[00:00:26]

Gulls pipers cockles and snails [00:00:28]

Out there crow black men[00:00:32]

Tackled with clouds who kneel[00:00:36]

To the sunset nets [00:00:39]

Geese nearly in heaven boys[00:00:41]

Stabbing and herons and shells[00:00:45]

That speak seven seas [00:00:48]

Eternal waters away[00:00:51]

From the cities of nine[00:00:54]

Days' night whose towers will catch[00:00:56]

In the religious wind[00:00:59]

Like stalks of tall dry straw [00:01:01]

At poor peace I sing[00:01:07]

To you strangers though song[00:01:09]

Is a burning and crested act [00:01:12]

The fire of birds in[00:01:16]

The world's turning wood [00:01:18]

For my swan splay sounds [00:01:21]

Out of these seathumbed leaves[00:01:24]

That will fly and fall[00:01:27]

Like leaves of trees and as soon[00:01:30]

Crumble Into the dogdayed night [00:01:33]

Seaward the salmon [00:01:38]

Sucked sun slips [00:01:40]

And the dumb swans drub blue[00:01:42]

My dabbed bay's dusk as I hack[00:01:45]

This rumpus of shapes[00:01:49]

For you to know[00:01:51]

How I a spining man [00:01:53]

Glory also this star bird[00:01:56]

Roared sea born [00:02:00]

Man torn blood blest [00:02:02]

Huk I trumpet the place [00:02:06]

From fish to jumping hill Look:[00:02:09]

I build my bellowing ark[00:02:13]

To the best of my love[00:02:16]

As the flood begins [00:02:18]

Out of the fountainhead[00:02:20]

Of fear rage read manalive [00:02:22]

Molten and mountainous to stream[00:02:27]

Over the wound asleep[00:02:30]

Sheep white hollow farms[00:02:32]

To Wales in my arms [00:02:36]

Hoo there in castle keep [00:02:40]

You king singsong owls [00:02:42]

Who moonbeam[00:02:45]

The flickering runs and dive[00:02:46]

The dingle furred deer dead [00:02:49]

Huloo on plumbed bryns [00:02:53]

O my ruffled ring dove[00:02:56]

In the hooting [00:02:58]

Nearly dark[00:03:00]

With Welsh and reverent rook [00:03:01]

Coo rooning the woods' praise [00:03:04]

Who moons her blue notes from her nest[00:03:08]

Down to the curlew herd [00:03:12]

Ho hullaballoing clan[00:03:15]

Agape with woe[00:03:17]

In your beaks [00:03:19]

On the gabbing capes [00:03:20]

Heigh on horseback hill jack[00:03:22]

Whisking hare who[00:03:25]

Hears there [00:03:28]

This fox light [00:03:29]

My flood ship's[00:03:31]

Clangour as I hew and smite[00:03:32]

A clash of anvils for my[00:03:35]

Hubbub and fiddle this tune[00:03:38]

On atounged puffball[00:03:41]

But animals thick as theives[00:03:44]

On God's rough tumbling grounds[00:03:47]

Hail to His beasthood [00:03:50]

Beasts who sleep good and thin [00:03:54]

Hist in hogback woods [00:03:56]

The haystacked[00:03:59]

Hollow farms ina throng[00:04:00]

Of waters cluck and cling [00:04:03]

And barnroofs cockcrow war [00:04:05]

O kingdom of neighbors finned[00:04:10]

Felled and quilled [00:04:13]

Flash to my patch[00:04:15]

Work ark and the moonshine[00:04:17]

Drinking Noah of the bay [00:04:20]

With pelt and scale [00:04:23]

And fleece:[00:04:25]

Only the drowned deep bells[00:04:28]

Of sheep and churches noise[00:04:30]

Poor peace as the sun sets[00:04:33]

And dark shoals every holy field [00:04:38]

We shall ride out alone[00:04:43]

And then [00:04:46]

Under the stars of Wales [00:04:47]

Cry Multiudes of arks Across[00:04:50]

The water lidded lands [00:04:55]

Manned with their loves they'll move[00:04:58]

Like wooden islands hill to hill [00:05:01]

Huloo my prowed dove with a flute [00:05:06]

Ahoy old sea-legged fox [00:05:10]

Tom tit and Dai mouse [00:05:14]

My ark sings in the sun[00:05:18]

At God speeded summer's end[00:05:22]

And the flood flowers now [00:05:26]
