Third Family Portrait - Radical Face[00:00:00]
Written by:Benjamin Cooper[00:00:00]
It was the dead of winter[00:00:00]
The cold was in our bones[00:00:08]
And our shelves stood barren[00:00:13]
As we had ever known[00:00:20]
So our mother stands on the porch one evening[00:00:25]
The silent crack in her stony mask she looked up at the sky[00:00:32]
And said please[00:00:42]
And by the turn of summer we packed up all we owned[00:01:11]
And with my mom and brothers we started for the coast[00:01:20]
And I would count all the clouds on the way[00:01:28]
And you and I would name them while the world around us changed[00:01:36]
And I remember asking if the place we're moving would have more food[00:01:45]
And my mother grew as distant as can be[00:01:54]
And mouthed please[00:02:02]
So I so tired eyes pay no mind[00:02:29]
The river of time will drown these days out[00:02:41]
It was the year just after we stood and watched the sea[00:03:15]
And my mom was smiling[00:03:28]
No longer saying please[00:03:34]
