Little Joe The Wrangler - Sara Carter[00:00:00]
Little Joe the Wrangler will wrangle nevermore[00:00:01]
His days with the roundup they are o'er[00:00:06]
Was a year ago last April[00:00:10]
When he rode into our camp[00:00:12]
Just a little Texas stray and nothing more[00:00:14]
Was late in the evening[00:00:18]
When he rode into our camp[00:00:21]
On the little Texas pony he called Chaw[00:00:23]
With his brogan shoes[00:00:27]
And overalls a tougher looking kid[00:00:28]
You never in your life before had saw[00:00:31]
His saddle was a Texas kack built many years ago[00:00:36]
An OK spur on one foot lightly swung[00:00:40]
With his packroll in a cotton[00:00:44]
Sack so loosely tied behind[00:00:46]
And a canteen from his saddle horn was slung[00:00:48]
He said he had to leave his home[00:00:53]
His pa had married twice[00:00:55]
His new ma whipped him every day or two[00:00:57]
So he saddled up old Chaw one night[00:01:01]
And lit a shuck his way[00:01:04]
He said he'd try to paddle his own canoe[00:01:05]
He said if we would give him work[00:01:10]
He'd do the best he could[00:01:12]
Though he didn't know straight up about a cow[00:01:14]
So the boss he cut him out a mount[00:01:18]
And kindly put him on[00:01:20]
He sorta liked this little kid somehow[00:01:22]
He learned to wrangle horses[00:01:26]
And learned to know them all[00:01:28]
And get them in at daybreakk if he could[00:01:31]
And to trail the old chuck wagon[00:01:35]
And always hitch the team[00:01:37]
And help to cook each evening rustle wood[00:01:39]
We had hardly reached the[00:01:43]
Pecos the weather it was fine[00:01:44]
We were camped down[00:01:47]
On the south side in a draw[00:01:48]
When a northern commenced blowing[00:01:51]
And we doubled up our guards[00:01:53]
It took every one of us to hold them in[00:01:55]
Little Joe the Wrangler was called out with the rest[00:02:00]
Scarcely had the little fellow reached the herd[00:02:04]
When the cattle they[00:02:08]
Stampeded like a hailstorm on they fled[00:02:09]
And everyone was ridin' for the lead[00:02:12]
Between the streaks of lightnin'[00:02:16]
We could see a horse ahead[00:02:18]
It was Little Joe the Wrangler in the lead[00:02:20]
He was riding old Blue[00:02:24]
Rocket with a slicker o'er his head[00:02:26]
He was trying to check the leaders in their speed[00:02:28]
We finally got 'em millin'[00:02:33]
And they sort of quieted down[00:02:35]
The extra guard back to the camp did go[00:02:37]
All but one of them was[00:02:41]
Missing and we all knew at a glance[00:02:43]
T'was our little Texas stray boy Wrangler Joe[00:02:45]
We found him there at sun up[00:02:49]
Where old Blue Rocket fell[00:02:51]
In a washout some twenty feet below[00:02:53]
Beneath his horse smashed to a pulp [00:02:57]
His spur had rung the knell[00:03:00]
For our little Texas stray boy Wrangler Joe[00:03:02]
