Friends this is Tex Ritter with a strange story[00:00:02]

About a soldier boy and a deck of cards [00:00:06]

During the North African campaign [00:00:20]

A bunch of soldier[00:00:21]

Boys had been on a long hike[00:00:22]

And they arrived in a little town called Casino [00:00:24]

The next morning being Sunday [00:00:27]

Several of the boys went to church [00:00:28]

A sergeant commanded the boys in church[00:00:31]

And after the Chaplin had read the prayer[00:00:33]

The text was taken up next [00:00:35]

Those of the boys[00:00:36]

Who had a prayer book took them out [00:00:38]

But this one boy only had a deck of card[00:00:40]

And so he spread them out [00:00:42]

The sergeant saw the cards and said [00:00:44]

Soldier put away those cards[00:00:46]

After the services were over the soldier[00:00:48]

Was taken prisoner and was taken before[00:00:50]

The provost marshal [00:00:52]

The marshal said sergeant [00:00:54]

“Why have you brought this man here ”[00:00:55]

“For playing cards in church Sir ”[00:00:58]

“And what do you have to say for yourself son ”[00:00:59]

“Much Sir” replied the soldier [00:01:02]

The Marshal said [00:01:04]

“I hope for if not [00:01:04]

I shall punish you more[00:01:05]

Than any man was ever punished ”[00:01:06]

The soldier said “[00:01:09]

Sir I have been on a march for six days[00:01:10]

And I had neither bible or prayer book [00:01:13]

But I hope to satisfy you [00:01:15]

Sir with the purity of my intentions ”[00:01:16]

With that the boy started his story [00:01:19]

You see sir when I see the Ace [00:01:23]

It reminds me that there is but one God [00:01:24]

And the deuce reminds[00:01:27]

Me the bible is divided into two parts [00:01:28]

The Old and the New Testament [00:01:30]

And when I see the three [00:01:33]

I think of the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost [00:01:34]

When I see the four [00:01:37]

I think of the four[00:01:39]

Evangelists who preached the gospel [00:01:40]

There was Mathew [00:01:41]

Mark Luke and John [00:01:42]

And when I see the five it reminds me[00:01:44]

Of the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps [00:01:46]

There were ten of them [00:01:49]

Five were wise and were saved and five were[00:01:50]

Foolish and were shut out [00:01:53]

And when I see the six it reminds me[00:01:56]

That in six days[00:01:58]

God made this great heaven and earth [00:01:59]

And when I see the seven[00:02:01]

It reminds me that on the seventh day God[00:02:03]

Rested from his great work [00:02:05]

And when I see the eight [00:02:07]

I think of the eight righteous people[00:02:08]

God saved when he destroyed this earth [00:02:09]

There was Noah his wife [00:02:13]

Their three sons and their wives [00:02:14]

And when I think of the nine [00:02:17]

I think of the leapers our savior[00:02:18]

Cleansed and nine of the[00:02:20]

Ten didn't even thank him [00:02:22]

When I see the ten [00:02:24]

I think of the ten commandments[00:02:25]

God handed down to Moses on a table of stone [00:02:26]

When I see the king [00:02:29]

It reminds me that there is but one king in heaven [00:02:31]

God all Mighty And when I see the queen [00:02:34]

I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary [00:02:37]

Who is queen of heaven [00:02:38]

And the Jack or knave is the Devil [00:02:39]

When I count the number of spots of[00:02:41]

A deck of cards I find three hundred[00:02:43]

And sixty five the number of days in a year [00:02:46]

There are fifty-two cards [00:02:49]

The number of weeks in a year [00:02:50]

There's four suits [00:02:52]

The number of weeks in a month [00:02:53]

There's twelve picture cards [00:02:54]

The number of months in a year [00:02:56]

There are thirteen tricks [00:02:58]

The number of weeks in a quarter [00:02:59]

So you see Sir [00:03:01]

My deck of cards serves me as a Bible [00:03:02]

Almanac and prayer book [00:03:05]

And friends[00:03:08]

This story is true I knew bcause[00:03:09]

I was that soldier[00:03:12]
