Joe MC Donnell - The Wolfe Tones[00:00:00]
Oh my name is Joe McDonnell[00:00:13]
From Belfast town I came[00:00:18]
That city I will never see again[00:00:21]
For in the town of Belfast[00:00:29]
I spent many happy days[00:00:33]
And I loved that town in oh so many ways[00:00:38]
For it's there I spent my childhood[00:00:46]
And found for me a wife[00:00:50]
I then set out to make for her a life[00:00:54]
But all my young ambitions[00:01:02]
Met with bitterness and hate[00:01:06]
I soon found myself inside a prison gate[00:01:10]
And you dare to call me a terrorist[00:01:18]
While you look down your gun[00:01:22]
When I think of all the deeds that you have done[00:01:26]
You have plundered many nations[00:01:34]
Divided many lands[00:01:38]
You have terrorized their people[00:01:42]
You ruled with an iron hand[00:01:46]
And you brought this reign of terror to my land[00:01:50]
Through those many months internment[00:01:58]
In the Maidstone and the Maze[00:02:02]
I thought about my land throughout those days[00:02:07]
Why my country was divided[00:02:15]
Why I was now in jail[00:02:19]
Imprisoned without crime or without trial[00:02:23]
And though I love my country[00:02:31]
I am not a bitter man[00:02:35]
I've seen cruelty and injustice at first hand[00:02:39]
So dad what faithful morning[00:02:47]
I shook bold freedom's hand[00:02:51]
For right or wrong I'd try to free my land[00:02:55]
And you dare to call me a terrorist[00:03:04]
While you look down your gun[00:03:08]
When I think of all the deeds that you have done[00:03:12]
You have plundered many nations[00:03:20]
Divided many lands[00:03:24]
You have terrorized their peoples[00:03:28]
You ruled with an iron hand[00:03:32]
And you brought this reign of terror to my land[00:03:36]
Then one cold October's morning[00:03:44]
Trapped in the lion's den[00:03:49]
I found myself in prison once again[00:03:53]
I was committed to the H Blocks[00:04:01]
For fourteen years or more[00:04:05]
On the blanket the conditions they were poor[00:04:09]
Then a hunger strike we did commence[00:04:17]
For the dignity of man[00:04:21]
But it seemed to me that no one gave a d**n[00:04:25]
But now I am a saddened man[00:04:33]
I've watched my comrades die[00:04:37]
If only people cared or wondered why[00:04:41]
And you dare to call me a terrorist[00:04:50]
While you look down your gun[00:04:54]
When I think of all the deeds that you have done[00:04:58]
You have plundered many nations[00:05:06]
Divided many lands[00:05:10]
You have terrorized their peoples[00:05:14]
You ruled with an iron hand[00:05:18]
And you brought this reign of terror to my land[00:05:21]
May god shine on you Bobby Sands[00:05:30]
For the courage you have shown[00:05:35]
May your glory and your fame be widely known[00:05:38]
And Francis Hughes and Ray McCreesh[00:05:46]
Who died unselfishly[00:05:51]
And Patsy O'Hara and the next in line is me[00:05:55]
And those who lie behind me[00:06:03]
May your courage be the same[00:06:07]
And I pray to god my life was not in vain[00:06:11]
All what sad and bitter was the year of nineteen eighty one[00:06:19]
And everything I'd lost and nothings won[00:06:28]
